One of the really special things about working here at Titus is the opportunity to watch folks who have never experienced our sport come out & try it for the first time. This is especially true when it involves youngsters!
We have always considered it our responsibility & privilege to be able to pass on the joy & benefits of our past-time to the next generation. It’s our way of giving back what has been gifted to us…and it’s essential to the long-term well-being of our favorite endeavor. None of us will ski & ride forever, so there must be others to carry the torch once we no longer can.
Titus is blessed with abundant ideal terrain for beginners & novices, so we have long been regarded as a great place to get started. This is especially true for 4th-6th grade school children…a fact that has not been overlooked by the many public, private & home-school groups that participate in our mid-week introductory programs.
If you happen to be here when one of these groups is arriving & making their way out to the Learning Center slope, Take a few minutes to just observe. You’ll see kids reacting in all kinds of ways to this totally new experience. You’ll see parents & chaperones doing their best to keep the pack moving in the right direction. You’ll see Titus personnel (who know this drill well) getting equipment issued, boots on & the kids out-the-door to the Learning Center.
On the snow is where the magic really happens. Instructors will guide the kids into pre-designated areas where they first learn to be comfortable in their equipment & then are taught to brake, turn & stop. Then they progress to riding our Magic Carpet & Learning Center Chairlift so that they can hone their new skills down the length of the slope. Finally, when they are ready, their instructors will release them in teams to explore the larger mountain.
It never grows old…watching these kids take their first tentative steps and seeing their enthusiasm explode as they discover that they can DO this wonderful, special, new thing!
All of us at Titus are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this. These kids will become the future’s torch-bearers.
