It’s a tradition that has been happening on the slopes of Titus for over 35 years—the annual Oktoberfest. You might have seen the posters or heard from a friend or saw the event on Facebook. You might have thought “what a great idea” or “I wish I had gone” or “that event might not be for me.”
Whatever you have though in the past, focus on this thought: we want YOU to attend Oktoberfest. Here’s why:
Help the Local & Ski Community
You don’t have just one way to help the community at Oktoberfest. You don’t have two. You have three!
As you walk through the gates you’ve already helped out! Admission to Oktoberfest is $5 (free for children 12 and under) and $1 of every admission goes to Adirondack for Kids, a foundation that offers grants to non-profit organizations that support youth activities in the area that we work, play, and live. Past grants and projects include: Holiday Helpers, Art in the Park, Malone Mustang helmet program, and the backpack program Every person who walks through the gates is helping fund youth activities in our area.
Of course you are going to get hungry at Oktoberfest and by simply eating delicious food you will be helping out the Titus Mountain Ski Patrol! This 100% volunteer organization helps keep skiers and riders on our mountain safe. Every year members of the organization wear their best grillmaster aprons, fire up the grill, and serve mouthwatering hot dogs, sausages, burgers, fried dough, and more. Every single dollar you spend at the food tent helps them purchase equipment, offset training costs, and ensure our slopes stay safe.
You’re not done helping the local community yet! Take a walk through our vendor area, both inside and outside, and you will see local organizations, small businesses, and perhaps even your neighbor showing off their knowledge, wares, crafts, and produce. Stop by their booths and chat with them. Buying is great, of course (support small businesses), but the spread of knowledge is just as awesome.
Have Some FUN
Richard Branson once said “If it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing.” It’s a little known fact that the first ski resort started spinning it’s lifts after hearing those wise words.
Not everyone can live the dream of working at a ski resort (PS--we are hiring), and those days at the office lustfully looking out the window have to get tiring after a while. So forget that expense report that was due. Forget your boss and your coworkers and the office fridge that has to be cleaned out.
In fact, forget that your house has to be cleaned and the lawn has to be mowed and you should probably start raking those leaves soon. We want you to have some FUN celebrating Autumn, the North Country, and the start of the most wonderful time of the year.
How you do it will ultimately be up to you but you’ve got a ton of options at Oktoberfest. Grab a seat at the bar and reminisce with some old friends. Bring the kids for some entertainment as they literally bounce off the walls in our free Titus Teddy Kids’ Zone with bounce houses, face painting, and more. Take the scenic view up the mountain in a chairlift or a hay wagon and take some quiet “me time” surrounded by nature’s canvas of foliage. Shop to your heart’s content in our vendor area with over 75 booths of crafts and creations.
Just make a point to have FUN.
